When to go canyoning in the Ubaye?

The canyoning season in the Ubaye runs from May to September, but every month has its own vibe. Here's how to pick the right window for your profile.

May and early June: high flow and motivated beginners

As soon as the snow melts, high-flow canyons open up. Water is cold, conditions are technical and committing. It's ma favourite window for sport and exception trips: Blache, Oules de Freissinières, Clue d'Amen. Avoid for family trips with kids: prefer lower canyons like upper Clapouse, which warm up faster.

July and August: peak season, for everyone

The heart of the tourist season and the best moment for family trips. Mild temperatures, long days, flows perfectly tuned for Costeplane and Clapouse. On the other hand, high-flow canyons lose some of their punch: Oules de Freissinières become calmer, almost too much. For strong sensations, keep Chaudan or the full Lance. Book in advance: slots go fast, especially in August.

September: the hidden gem

If you can travel in September, go for it. Fewer tourists, days still long, water warmed by summer and autumn colours starting to paint the slopes. All canyons are still doable until end of September, and the vibe is often calmer than in peak season. Excellent window for a canyoning break as a couple or with friends.

My recommendation

Family with kids: July or late August, for warm water. Sporty couple: June, for the adrenaline. Bachelor group or friends: first half of August. Experienced canyoner looking for commitment: May and early June, by appointment. In all cases, I tailor the route to the day's conditions. A WhatsApp message and we find your ideal slot.
