When to go canyoning in the Ubaye?

The canyoning season in the Ubaye runs from May to September, but every month has its own vibe. Here's how to pick the right window for your profile.

May and early June: wild nature and tranquillity

As the snow melts and milder temperatures return, the descents open up. Water stays cool, but conditions offer a wilder experience with few people in the canyons. It's also the ideal time to run routes that dry up in summer, like the Enduchet.

July and August: peak season, for everyone

This is the heart of the tourist season and the ideal period for family trips. Temperatures are pleasant, days are long and conditions are perfectly adapted. Book in advance: slots go fast, especially in August.

September: the hidden gem

If you can travel in September, go for it. Fewer visitors, still-long days, water warmed by summer and the first autumn colours. All canyons remain accessible until the end of the month, in a calmer and more privileged atmosphere. It's notably the ideal moment to discover iconic routes like the Oules de Freissinières.

My recommendation

  • Family with kids: July or late August, for warmer water
  • Sporty couple: June, for stronger sensations
  • Group (friends, bachelor party): July, for the summer vibe
  • Experienced canyoners: May, June and September, for more committing trips (on request)

In all cases, I tailor each trip to the day's conditions. One WhatsApp message and we find your ideal slot together.
